The "2nd Fernando Rezende
Morumbi" Brazilian National Cup, held September
4-7 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, found his place in the
history of the Brazilian Bowling Federation due to
some special and unique moments. The men's and women's
doubles tournament was named after Brazil's rising
star Fernando Rezende, who died in an accident at
the age of 23. Rezende, a member of club Morumbi,
had won a gold medal in FIQ World Youth
championships and two Brazilian individual titles.
The third game on the third day of competition
brought the first highlight, when Ademir Medina
and De Luquetti, husband and wife, bowled side
to side on lanes 15-16 and 17-18. The couple started
their games with the first nine strikes. Medina,
finishing first rolled another double, then left a
solid 10 for 299. Luquetti, who hardly couldn't
stand to bowl because of the pressure, rolled
strikes No. 10 and 11 before leaving a 6-pin on her
fill ball ... 299! Have you ever heard of anything
close to this? Picture courtesy of Talita Kadri.
Then it was Marizete Scheer's turn. The
bowling instructor from Belo Horizonte set three
national records for 6 and 24 games individual and 6
games doubles. The "little giant" as the
Brazilian bowling website called her, fired games of
254, 255, 203, 258, 246 and 253 for six-game total
of 1469 and an average of 244,83. Scheer broke the
previous record (1370) by 99 pins! The series helped
her to break also the women's doubles record for six
team games. Scheer and partner Janice Couto finsihed
with 2596 (216,33), 110 pins better than the
previous mark of 2486. With her 24-game total of
5267 (219,46), Scheer re-broke her own national
record set in August by just two pins. Picture

Celso Barata (photo) was the first to roll a
perfect game in the tournament. Happy end for Mr.
Medina. One day after his 299 he fired twelve
strikes in a row in his 23rd game of the event for
perfecto No. 2. Renato Castelloes set a new
Brazilian record for the men's 24-game total with
5562 (231,75 average). Scheer, Castelloes and Barata

Of course there were also winners crowned in the
"2nd Fernando Rezende Morumbi " Brazilian
